Take a good look at these three busts, which one is a representation of Jesus Christ? If you picked any one of them you’re wrong.
These are some of the images Christianity used to create a visual of their savior Jesus Christ. The first one of these busts are of Ptolemy I Soter , the first European pharaoh of Egypt and the others are of the Greek-Egyptian god Serapis (both the same person). Ptolemy, I was one of Alexander's most trusted generals and was one of his bodyguards. He demanded and received the title of Pharaoh around 305 BC while ruling over Egypt. During that time, because of certain acts by him like saving the people in Rhodes who were under siege by Demetrius, the grateful Rhodians bestowed the name Soter (savior) on him. As usual, many saviors always have some god or gods they interface with. In this case, it was the deity or god Serapis (the second two pictures). Ptolemy I of Egypt ordered all Greeks and Egyptians to accept Serapis as their official God as a means to unify the two nations of people under his rule in Egypt. To make Serapis acceptable to both groups he was depicted as Greek in appearance, but with Egyptian decorations, ornaments, and other outward signs. Years later when Christianity wanted to portray Jesus as the “Christ” or savior; making him resemble Ptolemy I Soter’s chosen god Serapis was an easy choice.
Just a side thought; how is it that Jesus raised the dead, walked on water, defied the world power, performed miracles, and even raised up from the dead himself after three days, and yet there is no bust or drawing of his physical appearance? The Christian scriptures claim he was Hebrew but artistic depictions have him as European. Arguably he was not a supernatural person or he was just one of the many earlier prophets in ancient times that years later Christian religious leaders make up to be their savior, just like Ptolemy I was in ancient Egypt.
Step Four
Turn this savior into a dependency and coping mechanism: Tell them why he is the only one that can save them. Tell them that the only solutions and protection for all their problems, sins and the vicious attacks by the devil or other people is their savior. Believers are told that they must have hope and faith that their savior will rescue them in the end. Even if they are faithful until death the savior will still stand and make sure they receive eternal rewards.
The entire foundation of the Christian faith is salvation through a savior. The title Christ or Christos in the Koine Greek means anointed one, Hebrew word Mashiach or Messiah means “savior”. The word Christianity comes from the word “Christ” which means savior or messiah. This doctrine and process have proven to be very successful for many religions today. Christianity has over 2 billion people claiming to be its followers; its main teaching is about Christ their savior. It gives
